PYEONGCHANG--(Korea Newswire)--The PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation will hold PyeongChang Peace Forum 2020 (PPF 2020) at PyeongChang Alpensia Convention Center in Gangwon Province from Feb. 9 to 11.

The PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation was established with the surplus from the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. Marking the second anniversary of the PyeongChang 2018 Games which were staged as the “Peace Olympics,” the foundation aims at carrying on the PyeongChang 2018 legacy of peace.

PyeongChang Peace Forum 2020 is a global forum led by peace creators and peace builders involved in sports and sustainable development. Its 2020 edition will proceed under the slogan of “Peace! Here and Now.”

“Action: End the Korean War” is the topic of the forum which will review and discuss concrete action plans for peace. It has four main themes: Sports, Economy, DMZ Peace Zone, and UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The forum will focus on specific action plans for peace, such as the new economic development plan for the Korean Peninsula and the DMZ Peace Zone, particularly because inter-Korean peace and trust are closely connected with regional peace and stability.

PyeongChang Peace Forum 2020 will be attended by 1,000 Korean and foreign figures including former and current national leaders, IOC members, and internationally renowned peace experts. Among major speakers are former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former Norwegian Prime Minister and former Director-General of the World Health Organization Gro Harlem Brundtland, and an investment expert and author Jim Rogers.

A session on Peace Economy will take an in-depth look at specific action plans for an initiative to develop a new economy on the Korean Peninsula through a virtuous circle of peace and economy.

A session on DMZ Peace Zone will feature various ideas and projects to build the DMZ Eco Peace Park, conserve the park as a joint South and North Korean “biosphere reserve” designated by the UNESCO, and turn Goseong(-gun) and other border areas into international peace cities where the South and the North will co-exist.

Besides, 11 parallel sessions and diverse side events are in place.
