PyeongChang Forum 2019 Holds to Create a Global Discussion on the Earth and Its Citizens

PYEONGCHANG--(Korea Newswire)--The PyeongChang Forum 2019 held in Alpensia Convention Center in Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province, South Korea from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15. The forum is hosted by the Government of Gangwon Province and organized by Gangwon Convention&Visitors Bureau.

PyeongChang Forum 2019 is the second edition of a large global forum launched last year to carry on the values and meanings of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea.

It discussed various issues on the Earth and share core vision and future values that our humanity should keep in perspectives of humanities and science.

By diagnosing complicated problems of the earth caused by rapid development such as climate change, the Forum is a popular public forum and a networking platform that deeply discuss the way to lead substantial changes and actual citizens actions of international societies to achieve sustainability in the future.

The PyeongChang Forum 2019 , which is the largest forum in Asia, is brought together about 1,000 participants -- experts at home and abroad, government, UN and NGO officials and members of the general public -- under the slogan of “At the Limit of Our Knowledge, Staring into the Future.”

The forum comprises five sessions of lectures by distinguished Korean and foreign scholars and experts of international organizations, a seminar and Science Talk Concert.

The forum kicked off with “Young Scientists Session” at 10 a.m. on Feb. 13. Well-reputed cosmologists Dr. Paul Davies and Dr. John D. Barrow are scheduled to discuss universe and humanity with young scientists.

In Session 1 on the theme of “Existence and Meaning,” Dr. Nicholas Humphrey; Dr. Terrence W. Deacon; and Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker took the platform. Dr. Humphrey is known for his work on the evolution of human intelligence and consciousness.

Speakers in Session 2 on the theme of “UN Global Citizenship: Leadership for Coexistence in Our Changing World” are Dr. Shahbaz Khan; H.E. Mr. Philipp Charwath; Mr. Maher Nasser; Dr. Ekkehard Ernst; and Mr. Martin Ford, futurist and New York Times best-selling author of “The Rise of the Robots”.

Lecturers in Session 3 on the theme of “Abrupt Climate Changes” are Dr. Masahiro Watanabe; Dr. Johnny Chan; Dr. Ray Weiss; and Dr. Ki-Hong Min, professor of the school of earth system science, Kyungpook National University, Korea.

In Session 4 on the theme of “Emerging Technology and Complexity,” Dr. David Wolpert, professor and resident faculty, Santa Fe Institute, USA, Dr. Jacopo Grilli, and Dr. Michael Price gave lectures. The Santa Fe Institute is dedicated to the multidisciplinary study of the fundamental principles of complex adaptive systems.
