MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OHIO--(Business Wire / Korea Newswire)--Materion Performance Alloys, a Materion Corporation (NYSE:MTRN) business, has more than doubled its capacity to produce foil gauge alloys that are widely used for camera module components in smartphones and tablets. Over the past six months, the company has increased operations in its Reading, Pennsylvania, and Elmore and Lorain, Ohio, plants to meet higher demands for its BrushForm® 158 (BF158) copper nickel tin strip products.

Materion first introduced BF158 in 2011 to fill the need for higher strength materials for miniaturization of voice coil motor and optical image stabilizing components in consumer electronics. BF158 products provide optimal high-strength properties and corrosion resistance in gauges as thin as .000984, giving engineers greater flexibility to design smaller, thinner devices with improved functionality. BF158 TM16, which was introduced in the consumer electronics market earlier this year, offers the highest strength properties available in a copper alloy. BF158 alloys have been proven to outperform other copper alloys, including copper titanium, in applications with high strength/high temperature/corrosion resistant requirements.

“With the announcement by Mitsubishi Metecs that they would exit the copper strip alloy market earlier this year, we started preparing our plants for higher production,” says Jason Maher, Vice President of Sales, Materion Performance Alloys. “The increased operations have allowed us to significantly reduce our global lead times and ensure supply of one of our top selling materials in the consumer electronics market. The market can continue to count on Materion to increase capacity to meet their needs.”

Materion Performance Alloys, headquartered in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
